Man Arrested After Sending Chilling Messages to Family of Missing Nancy Guthrie…

The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie from her Arizona home became even more distressing when her family received a cryptic text referencing bitcoin. This message arrived shortly after their public plea for information, immediately escalating fears and prompting a rapid, multi-state investigation. Authorities have since arrested Derrick Callella, in his mid-40s, in connection with these threatening communications.

Prosecutors allege Callella sent ransom-style text messages and made a brief phone call to family members. Callella reportedly admitted to investigators that he had been following news coverage of the case, found contact details online, and acted out of “curiosity.” Officials clarified that while serious charges have been filed against Callella for these deeply distressing communications, they are not connected to a separate ransom note previously sent to an Arizona news outlet. Law enforcement emphasizes the challenge of distinguishing cruel hoaxes from credible threats in such cases, stressing that Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains unsolved and search efforts are actively ongoing.
